Search engine optimization is such a critical component of today’s effective web business. Both on page and off page search engine optimization is important, and it is important that in thinking of search engine optimization, you are organized and informed.
You see, sometimes the things you think you should be doing for search engine optimization are not really important, or not as important as you have been led to believe. You should determine exactly what it is you need to be focusing on, and then spend the bulk of your search engine optimization time on just those topics. It is too easy online to waste time doing things that are not important, while letting the important things go.
So what really IS important with search engine optimization?
On page optimization probably only accounts for 10% of your search engine optimization plan, but if it is not done correctly, anything you do off page, which probably accounts for 90% of your search engine optimization efforts, will not be effective at all.
The top five things you should do for on page optimization are identifying and using your keywords in your title, in your keywords, in your page description, in your content early, in the middle, and near the end, and in a few header tags. Do not go overboard with anything in on page optimization. It only exists to tell the search engines what your web site is about; the off page optimization will determine where you rank in the search engines.
Off page optimization is the building of natural in bound links. These natural inbound links are so called because the search engines like to see inbound links that appear that they have grown naturally over time. This means that although you should write articles, submit to web directories, and work on getting your web site linked to by other important sites, you should do it in a natural fashion. This means don’t rush out and get 50 links one week and only 2 the next – only solicit as many links per week as you can reasonably seek out weekly on a long term basis.
